History
At baseline level, history education at the Judd School is designed to help pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. But we want to go further than that. We want to inspire pupils’ passion for history and instil a live-long academic curiosity in them. Our curriculum will equip pupils to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement. History helps pupils to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time. In short Judd historians become curious, independent and confident learners equipped with the soft skills and knowledge for life-long learning.
In order to achieve this our curriculum starts with a foundation course at KS3 that covers British and world history from the Middle Ages to the Modern Era before students are allowed to specialise and delve deeper into their own areas of interest at KS4 and KS5. As a secondary school, this degree of choice and specialisation makes us unique and helps us foster a live-long passion for history and academic study.
