Volunteering in Africa

On the 26th July Matthew M (Y9) will be travelling solo to Ghana to complete a two-week volunteering programme 'Children of Africa.' Once he goes through the departure gate at Heathrow he is on his own, until he meets with the programme organisers in Ghana. Matthew has worked to raise the money to pay for the trip for the past year and a half. He will be credited 40 hours of volunteering hours for community service. First place in Violin

Royal Life Saving Society Sussex Schools Competition 2025

The Royal Life Saving Society Sussex Schools Competition 2025 took place on 1st June at Windlesham House School with several age groups competing.

The competition has two elements testing both situational awareness and speed. The situational awareness test requires competitors to correctly identify, prioritise and treat multiple casualties in a water-based scenario during which the competitors are rigorously tested giving lifesaving treatment including resuscitation. The second element tests the speed and agility of competitors in the water through a swim and tow and also a line throw where pairs compete against the clock to coil and throw a rope to a casualty in water then recover them to safety.

Two of our students Seb H and Teddy S competed together winning the title of Junior Open Sussex School Champions 2025.

They regularly attend Beacon Life Saving Club where they learn and develop vital lifesaving skills. We are very proud of both boys. Well done!

Edgar second in East Kent Megafinal Chess Tournament

In another win for a member of the Judd chess team, Edgar (year 9) participated in the under 14 category of the East Kent Mega Final Chess Tournament on Saturday 24th May. The competition was tough, including three members of the England squad, but Edgar persevered and came second overall winning 5 out of 6 of his games. Edgar now goes on to participate in the Gigafinals later in the year. Well done and good luck to Edgar for the Gigafinals.

Kent Schools Combined Events

Well done to Toby for winning the Inter Boys (Yr 11 and 10) Kent schools Combined Events on the 21st May. His results of 100m Hurdles - 15.2, Discus 37.54, Long Jump, 6.44, Javelin 55.91, 1500m 5.04 gave him an enormous score of 3138.

Well done to the juniors (Year 8 and 9) for their first steps into multi event competitions. Sam came 4th (missing out fractionally on a medal after a recount). Victor (who equalled the Year 8 High Jump record of 1.60m), Daniel , Seb and Cheetan had ups and downs throughout the day.

Sam and Toby have been selected by Kent to compete for the county in the Combined Events later in June.

Success for Chamberlain at The London Organ Competition

Congratulations to Chamberlain in Y11 for his latest success at the prestigious London Organ Competition. The competition, organized by The Organ Club, aims to create and promote opportunities for talented teenage organists across Europe andbeyond. The latest was held on 27th & 28th December at St Michael Cornhill in Central London. Having had a strong showing in the previous year’s competition, and the judges commending Chamberlain as ‘one to watch’, the stage was set for this year.

LJCC Victory

Between Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th Edgar participated in a chess tournament called the LJCC (London Junior Chess Championships). He was placed in the under 14 category and won his section. There were 6 games that lasted between 2 and 3 hours per game with 3 games on each day. Edgar won all 3 games on Saturday and then, on Sunday he drew his first game and won his next two games, to achieve an overall score of 5 1/2 out of 6.

International Tournaments for Zach

Zach (Year 11) was selected to represent Great Britain at Fencing for 3 international tournaments this autumn and has just completed his third competition as part of team GBR. Zach fences with an Epee. He has travelled to Hungary, Austria and France to compete with the world’s top under 17 Fencers. He won a number of his bouts before being eventually knocked out, but gained hugely valuable international experience.

Solomon continues to prosper at Tottenham Hotspur

Congratulations to Solomon in Y10 who spent part of the July holidays travelling to Tokyo with his U15 Tottenham Hotspur team, they spent a week with the first team as part of the preseason tour. Solomon has had confirmation that the club wishes to retain him for another two years following a successful first season. He has been team captain on several occasions. We are all so proud of Solomon. Wishing you a fantastic season of football.

Success for Chamberlain at Northern Ireland Organ Competition

Congratulations to Chamberlain in Y11, he is a Judd organ scholar and has been studying the organ for just a little over two and half years under Miss Gillian Oldridge. Over the summer, Chamberlain was shortlisted to take part in the Northern Ireland International Organ Competition held last month at the St Patrick’s Cathedral of Northern Ireland, in the city of Armagh. Players had to perform a 12-minute recital comprising of two or three pieces. Whilst the intermediate category is for players of around grade 7-8 level, the choice of programme and high standard of playing would admirably parallel the technical capabilities of early to mid-diploma level. Despite being the second youngest at 14, Chamberlain delighted the jury, chaired by the renowned UK and international concert organist Thomas Trotter, and theaudience with one of J.S. Bach’s greatest organ works, Fantasia in G Major, also known as Pièce d'Orgue and the popular romantic era piece – Toccata in B Minor by French composer Eugene Gigout.

Jack makes Final

Congratulations to Jack B, who has just completed his GCSE's in the Summer and has recently competed at the Swim England National Summer Meet in Shefield. Jack is part of Larkfield Swimming Club and qualified for the 200m backstroke. Jack made it to the final, where he finished in 8th place with a personal best time of 2.14.93.

U20 Rugby World Cup Success

Huge Congratulations to Angus Hall (2024 Leaver) for Helping England U20 Win their First Junior Rugby World Cup since 2016. Angus has impressed the England coaches throughout his time with the 18s, 19s and now 20s playing groups. Angus started both the Semi-Final and Final making decisive breaks and plenty of try saving tackles to assist his elder teammates to their triumph over back-to-back holders France in July. This victory in South Africa meant that England U20s completed the full set of trophies claimed, having already won the 2024 Six Nations at the start of the year. Winner Whilton Mill Kart Club Round 2

Most weekends, Jack (9B) can be found at the race track competing against 50 other drivers. Recently, he took the top spot with his first win at Whilton Mill where he won the final by around 2 seconds. Race weekends consist of practice, qualifying, heats and then the race that matters, the final. There is always lots of action out on track which tends to ramp up for the final. This leads to quite a few crashes which sometimes cannot be avoided. Off the track, work has to be done as well such as analysing data, fixing the kart if it has been in a crash and having to work with the mechanic to get the kart setup correctly. To this end, karting is also very much a team sport. Jack is part of a team called Evolution Racing which is run by Tonbridge local James Laker. The team provides him with lots of support and advice and each race success Jack has is a victory for the team as well.

Open Water Success

On Sunday 30th June, Romeo took to Mercers Lake, Surrey to compete in the South East Regional, distance swimming championships (Open Water category). Romeo entered the furthest available distance for his age category of 2K, and we are delighted to announce that he took the Gold Medal! Romeo was swimming in an open field of swimmers at U12, U13 and U14, and aged at just 11 years, finished the 2 kilometre swim in 5th place overall. Romeo now turns his attention back to the pool, as he prepares to travel to Sheffield at the end of the month to compete in the National Championships.

Harry's Rowing Success

The 'Junior Inter-Regional Regatta' (JIRR) is a National event where the 13 British Rowing Regions select their fastest rowers/crews to compete against each other at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham for the JIRR national title. Following victory at the selection trials event for the Thames South East regional team back in February, Harry (Y 11) and his rowing partner, Ben, from Bewl Bridge Rowing club qualified to represent the Thames South East region in the J16 double scull event. Harry also qualified to represent the region in the single sculls event as well but had to select just one event to compete in at the main JIRR.

Last weekend, the 'Junior Inter-Regional Regatta' was held at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham where Harry and his partner raced against the fastest crews from the other 12 regions in the double scull event. After winning the morning time trial event to select the fastest 6 crews for the 'A' final, Harry and Ben lined up to race the 1,500m 'A' final in the afternoon. It was a closely fought battle for 1st and 2nd place all the way down the course, resulting in a silver medal for Harry & Ben who finished just one second behind the gold medalists. A great success and great start to regatta season.

Angus' England Rugby Success

Romeo takes golds at Kent County Champs

Romeo (Y7) recently competed at the Kent County Swimming Championships at the London Aquatic Centre. Having swam at the Championships for the first time last year, with a top place of 4th, Romeo was delighted to secure 8 Gold Medals this time round (200m/400m/800m/1500m freestyle, 200m/400m IM, 100m/200m breaststroke) as well as taking 2 Silver Medals in the 100m freestyle and 50m breaststroke and 3 Bronze Medals in the 100m/200m backstroke and 100m butterfly.

His next competition is the South East Regional Championships in April where he is hoping to gain qualifying times for the English National Championships in July.

Well done Romeo we are very proud of your achievements.

Last weekend, Daniel Y7 took part in the Medallist of the Year national final at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool.

He had a very successful weekend at pre-bronze standard, coming third nationally in his jive, fourth in his quickstep and gaining sixth place with his partner in the couples foxtrot event (which included those at gold and above).

Success for Zac at UK Regions Hockey Tournament

Following a successful county season, Zac Y8 was selected to represent Saxons, the South Region, at the UK Lions hockey tournament in Nottingham, from June 23 to 25^th.

His Saxons team won every pool game comfortably, with zero goals let in and an incredible 16 goals scored.

On Sunday morning they played the semi-final against the Heart of England; a closely contested match, but with Saxons finishing 4-2 up.

An exciting final took place Sunday afternoon and the boys won 2-1, scoring a winner in the last minute of the match, enabling the boys to take home the Championship trophy and being named UK Lions Winners

Fencing Achievement at the British Youth Championships 2023

Silas (Year 8) represented the South East Region in the British Youth Championships 2023. This was an annual fencing competition at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield over the weekend, he was one of the top finalists in his category (U14 Boys Foil) with 80 fencers.

Huge congratulations to Silas who finished in 8^th place overall in the competition.

Tonbridge Athletic Club’s under 15 boys’ team won a dramatic National Cross Country Relay Championship, on Saturday, at Berry Hill Park, Mansfield. A total of 95 teams started the race, as teams of three runners competed over the two kilometres long course, which undulated over parkland and woodland.

Fencer Dan set to represent GB in Romania

Daniel (Evans Y12) has been selected to join British Fencing's Cadet Sabre Squad to represent Great Britain at the European Fencing Federation's prestigious RIPOSTA CUP 2022 in Bucharest in Romania at the end of January. His selection follows his excellent performance in British Ranking Competition events across the UK over the national 2021-22 competition season. Daniel's achievement is particularly impressive as, due to Covid19 restrictions, he was unable to train for most of the 2020-21 season. Dan trains locally with MX Fencing in Sevenoaks - they also run beginners taster sessions for both school age and adult fencers so if any pupil, parent or staff member would like to give it a go then they would be very welcome!

Acrobatic glory
