Judd U14s regain Kent county title
Gravesend rugby club were the hosts of an enthralling Kent County Schools cup U14 rugby final, in which The Judd School eventually beat Langley park 44-21.
After beating Maidstone Grammar, Kings Canterbury and Skinners Schools to reach the final, Judd played under floodlights in a game that was a great advertisement for the school game. Judd had a slightly nervy start but eventually the forwards gained some good territory and Harrison finished from close range with Ciaran converting. Rory and Hugo started to dominate the midfield battle and created space for Lucas to dive over for a quick second try. Two magnificent Langley Park tries in a very short time made it 12-14 but before half time Matthew scored a very well deserved individual try after carrying hard and making some outstanding tackles, resulting in a 17-14 at half time. A fourth try was scored by the very dominant Judd pack by Idhant, crashing over after excellent team play. The three quarters kept creating half chances with the creativity of Seb, Mackenzie, Owen and George and this combination saw Joe round off some flowing passing to score under the posts and leave the score 29-14.
Langley then found space out wide to bring the score back to a nail biting 29-21 with 15 minutes to play. The last 15 minutes saw Judd score 15 unanswered points, which did not reflect the outstanding performance of Langley Park School. Mackenzie slotted a penalty and then both Ted and Sam made 40 metre breaks along the touch line to give reward from yet more team play and from excellent defence, skills and tackling from Dexter, Ben, Kieran, Pedri, Austin and Leo , who was magnificent throughout the match at both Flanker and Hooker. Rory lifted the trophy for the ninth time for Judd, since 2003 and celebrated a very hard earned team title.
