ESAA National Athletics Schools Cup Final

The Judd School were one of very few schools to be represented by teams in two different age groups in the National Athletics Schools Cup final on Saturday at Chelmsford, Essex. After qualifying through an area and regional round, the final saw Judd compete against the best from each region with 13 teams in the final and finish with amazing positions of 3rd and 4th in the country!

The day was windy, with track times hard to achieve but both teams performed admirably in the conditions against superb opposition. The team of 14 juniors (Y7 and 8) and 14 intermediate (Y9 and 10) finished 4th and 3rd respectively. The intermediate age group team was made up from Toby - the highest scoring Judd athlete of the day,  (11.5 hurdles and 1.85 high jump), George (11.5 hurdles and 5.39 long jump), the 100m was run into a massive headwind by Joe (12.5 and 13.03 shot putt) and Fedhel (13.0 and 5.75 long jump), 200 metre runners were Paul (24.8 and a massive 50m 24 javelin throw) and Sam (25.1 and 33.97 javelin), very fast 300s were raced from Arthur (36.9 equal best points scoring event of the day, 10.46 shot putt) and Sol (38.4 and a personal best triple jump of 12.21), 800 metres was run by Sean (2;10 and 1:53 high jump) and Josh (2:14 p.b and 12:03 triple jump), the 1500 ran by Charlie (4:16) and Luca (4:21), with Austin (33.14)  and Harrison (37.57) throwing the discus and racing the 4 x 100 relay in 50.9s. All these events combined saw Judd score 563 points and beat 4th place by 1 points to earn a national podium!

The juniors missed out on a podium by an agonizing 5 points but still competed superbly to finish 4th in the country. They were led superbly by Victor (12.4 hurdles pb and 1.62 high jump) with Max also racing the hurdles (13.3 and 9.70 triple jump), the 100 was raced by Jack (13.6 and 4.87 long jump) and Daniel (12.9 and 9.62 shot putt), in the 200 Chetan raced a rapid 25.9 with Memphis (27.5 and 20.23 discus), the 300 saw Juan (45.4 and (.47 shot putt) and Dexter (42.7 and 4:80 long jump), in the 800 were Ed (2:27 and 10.19 pb in the triple jump) and Daniel (2:30 and 28.23 javelin) and the 1500m had Sebbie run the quickest time of the day (4.36 and 1.38 high jump) with Sam running 4.49. Completing the team were Stanley throwing a hammer 30m13 and Lewis throwing a discus 24.40 to round off a brilliant display of track and field athletics from The Judd School.
