Judd '52 Year Group Reunion - June 2025

On 3rd June 2025 Neil Wickens, one of our Judd '52 year group, returned to the UK from Australia to meet up with 5 of us octogenerians for lunch at the Carpenters Arms nr Hadlow and to reminisce ours lives since first meeting 73 years ago at Judd!

Here we are at lunch (Martin Walker, Barry Nicholls, Chris Wickham, Geoff Pettitt, Neil Wickens & Ken Gunn who share the same September birthday!).

Our Judd '52 year (on entry) have had  9 Reunions since 1991 (50 years) with our Platinum Reunion in 2022 and this reunion is probably the last!

The grammar school system post war and in the 50's was for local boys who passed the 11+ from mostly working class families. Few of us without state scholarships could afford to go to university.

After 'A'  levels we found employment with Companies' who funded  'day release' each week along with evening classes at Colleges of Advanced Technology (CAT's) or Polytechnics to complete our tertiary education. Now all designated 'uni's'. This provided real opportunities for 'social mobility' in those days.

Neil and all of us followed this route and enjoyed lives that our parents could only have dreamt of.

At all of our Reunions we thanked Judd and the grammar school system for 'giving us the tools' to have these more meaningful and fulfilled lives.

We agreed to draft brief life histories for circulation amongst our group which may be of wider interest to all OJ's and maybe for 'The Juddian'.
