U15As joint Kent Cup Champions!

On Tuesday 21st November at Gravesend RFC, the U15As drew 15-15 all with last year’s U14 Champions, Sir Joseph Williamson's Mathematical School (known as ‘Rochester Maths’). As both teams shared exactly the same ways of scoring with two tries, one converted, one not and a penalty, the teams are joint Kent Cup U15 champions for the 2023/2024 season.

In a physical and tight game, Judd crossed the line first with Dominic going over from short range and Finn converting. Rochester then responded with their own try a few minutes later, but the conversion was missed. From the ensuing kick off, Judd then turned the ball over, and applied monumental pressure through both powerful carrying and smart kicking from Theo. After 5 minutes of battering down on Rochester Maths’ defensive wall, Dominic again appeared from short range to score Judd’s second try to end the first half.

Starting the 2nd half, Judd infringed a few times, giving Rochester Maths field position, from which their outside centre ran a tremendous line to score under the posts, the conversion going through to make it 12-12. A tense period of the game ensued as both teams battled for field position. A few infringements gave Rochester Maths the opportunity to kick three points in front of the posts, which they duly took to make it 15-12 to them. The U15As have shown true determination and grit throughout this cup run, and again applied incredible pressure on Rochester Maths, playing and kicking smartly to apply pressure. Rochester Maths’ defense held out for most of this, but a breakdown infringement led to Theo cooly taking the points from in front of the posts to make it 15-15. With a few minutes to go, there were tense moments for both sides, but it ended in a draw.

A fantastic performance and final to match a brilliant Kent Cup run from the forever underdog U15As.
